Mara Zeichner

Biography:

Mara’s journey into yoga began in 2016 after a few years of practicing and teaching acro yoga in the Athens area. When she started taking yoga classes regularly, she was drawn to the strength she gained, both mentally and physically. She discovered M3Yoga in 2018 and fell in love with what was offered there. The beautiful community of teachers and practitioners were a big part of why she decided to complete her 200 hr yoga teacher training through M3! Mara loves incorporating her experience in acro yoga into her yoga classes- playfulness, good communication, healthy touch, and teamwork!
Beyond teaching yoga, Mara works at Hillel at UGA as the Director of Engagement and Wellness. She does outreach, programming, and leadership development with Jewish students at UGA.

Where are you from? August, Georgia

How long have you lived in Athens? I did my undergrad here, moved away for 2 years, and I’ve been back for 5 years!

What’s your passion? Finding what makes me and others come alive

Favorite book? Exodus by Leon Uris. It’s a very thick book, but so worth the read!

Favorite movie? Patch Adams. I love the joy that the lead character brings to everyone else, even with his own personal challenges.

Favorite restaurant? South Kitchen. Their macaroni and cheese is phenomenal!

When did you start practicing yoga and why?
I began practicing yoga in 2016 after a few years of doing acro yoga and thinking I didn’t like “regular yoga.” I had a not-so-great experience with one class and decided yoga wasn’t for me. I’m glad that I had many friends encourage me to try yoga again and now it’s a huge part of my life

What’s your favorite yoga style?
Vinyasa

How long have you taught yoga? What inspired you to teach?
I have taught yoga since Sept. 2019 after completing my 200 hr training at M3! I wanted to deepen my practice while also being able to inspire people to experience yoga and see that it can be accessible for anyone!

What’s your advice to someone who is new to yoga?
Be open-minded to trying different styles to find what works best for you.

What is your favorite pose?
Headstand! Once I learned how to do a headstand, I began doing them everywhere I travel (England, Israel, Dominican Republic, and all around the US)!

What’s your favorite class at M3?
I most enjoy super stretch. I love the focus on one muscle group, and somehow it’s always what I need!

What do you enjoy most about M3?
The community. M3 has built such an incredible group of teachers and practitioners with classes and experiences that almost anyone can connect with.
