M3Yoga Temporary Closure

For the safety of our immediate yoga community and the community at large, we will close March 15-27.

Many of you know that I have an extensive background in nursing and have been monitoring the updates to the COVID-19 through the eyes of a healthcare professional.

While the past several weeks I believe we have done everything we can to stay ahead of this situation, it has become increasingly more aware that we as a studio can’t stay open without an element of risk for our people.

We have made a gut-wrenching decision to close our studios temporarily for the next 12 days (March 15-27).

I am not an alarmist and this is not a fear-based decision. Our decision comes from not just a background of studio ownership, but my background as a health care professional. And as the WHO labels this a pandemic, we want to do everything we can to flatten the curve (read more about flattening the curve here)

Both Matt and I have been brought to tears many times over the past several days when we thought about what this means for you as our students, us as small business owners, and our team who rely on us for income.

We also have been brought to tears by the amazing support Warriors past and present have given us during this difficult time. It has meant more than you will ever know.

We feel as a studio and as people that 10 years from now looking back, we will be proud of this decision to reduce harm and not make business decisions based out of financial fear, but out of overall community wellbeing. Community is one of our core values, after all.

It is our job as studio owners and community leaders to not only protect our community in studio, but do what we can to protect our community as a whole.

We hope that you’ll continue to support our community during this time. We encourage you to keep supporting your favorite local businesses (many of whom have reached out to us to let us know they are also facing struggles). If you’re not sure how to support local businesses or how to get things locally, reach out and we will connect you to the right small business.

Please continue to do what is best for you and your loved ones. Follow all recommendations and guidelines from public health officials and health care providers. We want our Warriors to remain healthy and strong.

We still want to bring some M3 into your daily life, so we’ve already developed an online portal to continue to provide value to our members and so you can feel connected to us and us you even while away from the studio.

M3online is a collection of exclusive video and audio classes for our members. Right now there are 16 different classes to choose from. We will be updating M3online with more content every day at least while closed so that your practice can remain fresh and varied.

If you’re an M3 prepaid or monthly member, you should have already received an email about M3online and how to access it. If you did not, let us know and we’ll get you set up.

Our teachers have taught you how to take yoga off the mat, and this is when to practice those skills.

Now is the time where your yoga practice off the mat is vital. The mindfulness techniques, ability to sit with discomfort, and willingness to do hard things are invaluable right now.

My yoga practice has led me to this very, very difficult decision. The very first limb of yoga is yama and the first portion of yama is ahimsa, which means non-harming. I want to make sure that every decision in my life results in the least amount of harm possible.

I may never know whether or not this period of pausing public classes will have directly affected anyone or have saved anyone’s life, but I do know this decision could and that’s what really matters to me the most. That is the kind of leader I want to be. This is not a business issue, this is a human issue.

Do not stop practicing yoga. You are prepared for anything because of your practice as a Warrior.

As always, please don’t hesitate to hit that reply button and reach out. Matt and I are here for you as studio owners, but also as friends. If you need to vent, cry, share something or just ask for some space, we are here for it. We are here for you. Through it all. We love you.

With a grateful heart,
Nick
