Teaches: Yoga for Back Health

Where are you from? Athens

How long have you lived in Athens? On-and-off since I was 7

What’s your passion? Pretty much anything to do with the body (anatomy, Rolfing, yoga, exercise, etc.)

Favorite book? The Razor’s Edge by W. Somerset Maugham

Favorite movie? Don’t make me choose.

Favorite restaurant? Seabear

When did you start practicing yoga and why?
I started practicing in 2006 when I was still in high school. It started as one of those “I’ll try anything once” attempts, and little did I realize how much I would fall in love with it. After my first class my body was literally buzzing. I was hooked.

What’s your favorite yoga style?
It really depends. I’m a firm believer that there isn’t any right yoga style for one person. Some days I feel like I have to just move around, some days I need long, still holds, and other days I really just need to breathe and roll around on the floor. At the end of the day, so long as there’s breath and focus then I’m good with it.

How long have you taught yoga? What inspired you to teach?
I’ve taught since 2009. I wanted to start teaching because I loved the practice so much. It was very much something that felt like I couldn’t just keep to myself.

What’s your advice to someone who is new to yoga?
Try everything. Like I said, what your body and your mind needs may differ a lot from day to day, week to week, or year to year. I’ve gone through phases where all I wanted was power yoga and intensity, but now I feel like all I want out of my yoga practice is movement and calm. So try out a bunch of classes (30 days for $30, baby!), see what works for you, and don’t feel like you’re not doing yoga just because it may feel different than the classes you’re used to.

What is your favorite pose?
Constructive rest pose and/or handstand.

What’s your favorite class to teach at M3? Favorite to take?
My favorite class to teach is the Yoga for Back Health. I’ve always struggled with back pain, so for me having a regular maintenance practice specifically for that is so key for my life.

My favorite class to take is probably Em’s Slow Flow class, but then again I may be a bit biased towards the teacher…

What do you enjoy most about M3?
The diversity, the ease, the community.
