Victoria is one of the yoga teacher trainees in our Spring 2019 cohort. Read more about her story and why she’s training at M3Yoga.
Where are you from? Tucson, Arizona
Where do you live? Winterville, Georgia
Favorite place you’ve been? This is very hard considering I love to travel. But, top two choices would be Dingle, Ireland and Pemuteran, Bali.
What’s your passion? Traveling, cooking and fitness
Favorite pose? Patita Tarasana (Fallen Triangle/Fallen Star)
How long have you practiced yoga?
I have been practicing yoga on and off for 10 years, I have had a dedicated practice for the last 3 years.
What’s your favorite yoga style?
It honestly depends on the day, my mood, and what I feel my body needs. Here at M3 I love everything from a nice, juicy slow flow, an invigorating rocket class, to a sweaty, intense power flow.
Why did you decide to attend teacher training?
Teacher training is something that I have considered doing on and off for many years, but I kept telling myself excuses such as, “now isn’t the right time” or “I don’t think I am a strong enough yogi to ever be a teacher.” Finally after the new year in 2019 I told myself there will never be a ‘perfect’ time to join YTT, and I will never know what kind of yoga teacher I could potentially be if I don’t give myself a chance to try! Therefore, I took the plunge and signed up.
Why did you decide to train at the M3Yoga Center?
It has been a very long time since I have felt such a strong connection to a yoga studio. M3 is rooted in a strong philosophy that yoga is for everybody, something that I full-heartedly believe in and support. Beyond this solid foundation, I feel M3 is built with such amazingly wonderful teachers, whose passion for yoga and reaching their students is evident from the moment you walk in the studio doors. Additionally, M3 offers a large variety of classes, and at various times throughout the day, giving everyone the opportunity to find what they need and fit it into their schedule easily. Because of these things I had no doubt that the training that M3 would offer would be exceptional and I was eager to grow and learn from Nick and Kate.
What has been your favorite part of the training so far?
My favorite part has been designing our practicums. From the second module, we were given the opportunity to begin to come in to our own as a teacher through designing sequences, honing in cueing techniques, and finding how our personality fit into teaching a yoga class. I have greatly enjoyed this process and have found it very rewarding.
What’s been the hardest part of the training so far?
Honestly, sitting for so long.
What is one thing you wish you knew before the training?
I had been warned that YTT would go beyond learning how to teach yoga and that it would be a time to learn about yourself, requiring a bit of vulnerability. I wasn’t expecting this to be as challenging as it has been.
What is your advice to someone considering teacher training?
Simply, just do it. Let go of whatever is holding you back and jump into it with an open heart.
